The United States government is supposed to have a separation of church and state, but there are always arguments over things like taking the ten commandments away from the courthouse. I propose that we honor our four fathers and leave the country the way they wanted it to be.

This country’s pioneers fled from Europe to escape the iron grip from Europe's religion. When our four fathers formed this country they wanted to prevent religion from ever taking control over our government. 229 years later the government officials of today are usually apart of a religion, and have no problem flaunting their religion and forcing their ideals on everyone else.

They force it on us in small doses like placing the Ten Commandments at the courthouse, or preaching that they’re in office because god wants them to be. Some would say to just ignore them or you don’t have to look at them, but just pretending it’s not there isn’t going to change the injustice they are committing. If we let them get away with the little things they’ll only start trying to get away with bigger things, just like Enron.

America has a vast diversity of religion, if we let one get full power in the government many of the other religions will feel or be alienated or persecuted. Being an Atheist or a Muslim shouldn’t make you have a smaller chance of becoming a government official. When President Bush states that he’s here because god put him here he’s basically saying that god loves people that are like him more, and that he and his religion are better then the rest.

A law should be made to stop government officials from preaching religion, or acting out according to the religion they’re apart of. My proposal is no more radical then the crap they feed us on a daily basis. Some don’t think religion is necessarily a bad thing in the government but most of the terrorist acts that have gone on in the last hundred years, in example 9/11 or the Holocaust, were done because the terrorists believed in a certain religious ideal.

The bottom line is that are four fathers didn’t want any religion to be apart of anything that has to do with the government. I propose that we leave the government the way they left it for us, and leave religion where it’s supposed to be, in church. Just because it’s our country now doesn’t mean we can or we have the right to run it any way we want.

If we let them get away with the little things they’ll only start trying to get away with something bigger, just like the war in Iraq.

America has a vast diversity of religion, yet the majority of government officials that openly flaunt their religion are Christians or catholic. If we let one religion get full power in the government many of the other religions will feel or be alienated or persecuted.
